Come play soccer. All ages, all abilities.

It’s on!

Part of the Declaration “2015 – The Year of Women in Sport” is about inspiring and empowering others through sport.

After working on this idea for several weeks, we’ve settled on what we are calling ‘The Footie Project.’

The first get together to play soccer (all levels welcomed) is Saturday, August 23rd. There is a logic to it – this event is in the midst of the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup running from Tuesday August 5th to Sunday August 24th.

We want to connect with others during the FIFA International tournament. The reason? To celebrate the advancements of women and of sport.

Further, we believe it will be an energizing way to acknowledge the young women playing soccer at the U-20 World Cup, women from all over the world AND to kickoff our buildup towards 2015 – the Year of Women in Sport.

Do you have hesitation about playing soccer? Well, fear not! The point is not really about playing soccer but about taking part in an active reminder that all girls and women are to be celebrated (just as boys and men are), and that ‘violence against girls’ must stop.

These pictures demonstrate how easy it is to play soccer. Yes you too can try this out (presumably with more people) on Saturday August 23rd.
(Thank you to our volunteer twosome at the local park.)

Soccer at its most basic level: 2 people + 1 ball and a willingness to pass it back and forth.

More advanced soccer: one individual kicks the ball at the other. The other may stop it or not! 🙂

And then there’s this – the inevitable giving of instruction of one to the other.
