McLachlan has a Bachelor of Science from the University of Victoria and a Bachelor of Education from the University of Alberta. She attended the University of Alabama where she began a degree in interior design and discovered a love for the structural, spatial aspects of the discipline. In particular, she really enjoys residential design and looking at such things as accessibility and longevity.

She says “Sport has given me so many things, from life long friendships to travel opportunities and unforgettable experiences but the biggest things I will take away are patience, determination, and self motivation. Sport has exposed me to the people and experiences that have helped shape me into the woman I am and for that I will be forever grateful.”
