You know when you feel driven to do something and it burns inside of you? You can’t stop and don’t want to.
As a Canadian and an empowered person, it was essential to me to make a difference. I say ‘was’ because I had been ignited by the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver and I knew that the power of festival-like atmosphere of big sport really touched myself and people around me. The red mittens, the national anthem, the sea of red ….. It somehow brought things to a new level in our city.
Were you there, do you know what I mean? I was driven.
That’s how I feel about recognizing the positive impact that this next big sporting event – the Women’s World Cup of Soccer is going to bring to our local cities and countries. The hope it will build in me and others.
Especially young girls. It’s starting to happen with the FIFA ads, videos, trophy tours and so on. The visuals of strong female athletes everywhere. It’s bringing hope…. That’s one reason this declaration 2015 The Year of Women in Sport exists – so you can make a simple statement about hope by adding your name and sharing it with others. – ld
