You know when you feel driven to do something and it burns inside of you? You can’t stop and don’t want to.   As a Canadian and an empowered person, it was essential to me to make a difference. I say ‘was’ because I had been ignited by the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver and I knew that the power of festival-like atmosphere of big sport really touched myself and people around me. Canada considers motion to declare 2015 The Year of Women in Sport   Today, April 22, 2015, the notice to declare “2015 – The Year of Women in Sport” went to the House of Commons in Canada.   That, in the opinion of the House, the government should: (a) recognize that sport builds character, teaches skills and develops qualities including self-esteem, perseverance, teamwork, fair play, respect for others, and leadership; and (b) proclaim 2015 the Year of Women in Sport in honour of Canada hosting the 2015 Women’s World Cup of soccer and the Governor General’s declaration of 2015 as… Read more →

A Day to help

One of the things I am working on is a message to not only celebrate women, but to help in another way. I drafted the declaration below. What do you think? It’s not easy to write a declaration that makes sense. I am trying to get to the point. Meeting with Linda Reid, Speaker of the House, Province of British Columbia, Canada

Today I met a powerhouse. The Speaker of the House in BC, Linda Reid. The meeting went like this: Her: “Have you sent a letter in to the Minister responsible with your request to declare ‘2015 – The Year of Women in Sport’?” Me: “Well I sent emails to test the waters last summer.” Her: “Well we work on letters. Send a letter, copy me, and we’ll get this done.
