A night of The Power in Sport, Tues Feb 18th in Vancouver
Our ‘The Power in Sport’ night gathered a small quality group of people together. We shared stories and reveled in the Olympics (somewhat) and mostly visited. Our hosts at The Cottage Bistro on Main St. did a great job of serving us while most of us took the microphone. It’s amazing that even though we started with two speakers we ended up with many more!
A thank you to The Cottage Bistro and his team for their great service, Stephen and JJ Bean on Commercial Drive for gift cards, Staples on Grandview Highway for gift cards (we love office supplies), and Don at Uprising Bakery on Venables for the delicious chocolate bundt cake.
Our team of Simon, Josh, Eleanor, and Linda McIntyre made us feel welcomed, timed, declared, and videotaped! What a great team.
See here for last month’s messages, in case you missed them.
Messages
We heard about
- playing sport for the love of it,
- transitioning from track to riding horses competitively,
- playing field hockey somewhat unskillfully and being bonked in the head,
- being a so-so athlete in school and then making the university team,
- the inspiration that is Charles Hamelin of Quebec (short track speed skater and multiple medalist for Canada)
- the thrill of rock climbing,
- playing soccer barefoot on Canada Day,
- running the 40th marathon, and
- more.
Janet Law was our ‘prepared’ speaker and told us a vivid story about getting her first real pair of basketball sneakers and meeting Olympian Roger Black as a few highlights from her world of sport.
It leaves us wondering, what will the messages be for the next event, Tues Mar 18th? We already have a surprise speaker coming… it should be another good night.
(Who will take away the chocolate bundt cake this time?)
Thank you all for making it memorable evening. We look forward to seeing you next time.
Having a good time? Bring a friend.
~Linda
