You know those moments when you draw on what you’ve learned from sport? Like you are under pressure and opportunity presents itself, and you seize it? Do you know what I mean?
I had the opportunity to step up this weekend.
Watching master presenter Allan de la Plante and World Champion (runnerup) speaker Angela Louie both speak was inspiring. Allan has published many books and is a master pro photographer. But what really got me was he became the principal photographer at the ’76 Olympics as a relative unknown. He told a riveting story about borrowing a car to drive to Montreal to pitch the decision-makers and convince them he was THE guy to hire to take the photos of Olympians at the Montreal Olympics. And you know what? He got the job!
Then it was my turn…he gave me the floor in front of some 50 people. I drew from my experience in sport to seize the moment and go for it.
Telling the story of declaring 2015 The Year of Women in Sport was a honour and I seized the moment to invite everyone, as Canadians, to step up and recognize what is sure to be an amazing Women’s World Cup of Soccer that will inspire countless young girls and boys to be all they can be.
What came of that message? All the photos below. Lots of friends and audience members declaring 2015 The Year of Women in Sport. -ld
