VANCOUVER & BURNABY – Press Release
The Power in Sport is pleased to announce the first proclamation made by a government body to recognize 2015 as a significant year for women and sport in Canada.
Declaration “2015 – The Year of Women in Sport!” is to be made by The City of Burnaby Monday Oct 6th, 7:00pm at Burnaby City Hall.
“Our city is very proud of the achievements of its amateur and professional Burnaby athletes,” says Mayor Derek Corrigan. “We look forward, through our exceptional recreational facilities and programs, to continuing to support and develop the aspirations of Burnaby citizens who participate in sports of all kinds at all levels. I am particularly proud today to proclaim 2015 the Year of Women in Sport in the City of Burnaby, as we honour the many great female athletes who have lived, trained and played in Burnaby and those will follow their inspiring lead.”
“This is the next step in an important buildup to next year’s community participation and enthusiasm for the Women’s World Cup of Soccer, Pan American Games and women’s sport. The leadership of government in raising awareness bodes well for future declarations across Canada,” said Linda Diano, founder of The Power in Sport.
