Look at the enthusiasm – this group surely must have been cheering for the Costa Rican tie today in the Women’s World Cup.
Our network member, Seprojoven, is playing it forward on Saturday, June 27th in San Jose, Costa Rica.
We are excited to have them play with us!
Here is a bit about how they educate and create leadership – “Our organisation is called Seprojoven and we are an Costa Rican NGO. Our office is located in Alajuela which is very close to the Costa Rican capital San José. We have to main projects, one is called the LigaFEM and the other is the Copa Indigena. The LigaFEM is a project where we work with girls from four of the poorer comunities of San José. We have soccerpractise once a week in each comunity and try to give the girls a better future, by giving them to possibility to participate in workshops and receive a formation as soccer coaches. In the Copa Indigena we work with the indigenous population of Costa Rica. We host five soccercup meetings every year, four in the indigenous comunities (200 participants each) and the final in San José (800 participants). These meetings always consist of soccer games, workshops for the young people who participate and a cultural presentation of each comunity who takes part.
Our goals are to form the young people we are working with to be leaders in their communities, to promote gender equality, to provide an opportunity for a better future for the young people and to make a cultural exchange with and between the indigenous communities possible.”
